We first discovered TRIBE Phnom Penh Post Office Square when I was surfing the ALL mobile app one day and discovered that Accor has a new hotel in Phnom Penh. Previously, I was aware that Sofitel and Raffles were the only Accor hotels in the city. I was really happy to have found an affordable hotel in the city. I knew we had to try this hotel out when we revisited Phnom Penh. As it turns out, we were headed to the city for three nights, and I decided to book a stay at this beautiful hotel!

TL:DR

  • Spacious suite with plenty of room to relax

  • Affordable hotel with five-star service

  • Rooftop swimming pool and rooftop bar

  • Amazing restaurants

Service:

Service was top-notch, and we experienced the famous Cambodian hospitality. Every staff member we encountered was extremely friendly, and they were nothing but kind to us. The staff always greeted us enthusiastically wherever we headed in the hotel, whether it was a restaurant, the lounge, the swimming pool, or walking past the lobby. Throughout our stay, we felt really welcome and appreciated the warm feelings they provided. The staff at TRIBE Phnom Penh Post Office Square truly made us feel welcome in Phnom Penh and Cambodia!

Hotel Facilities:

As with most hotels, TRIBE Phnom Penh Post Office Square has a beautiful swimming pool and gymnasium. The swimming pool is sort of a rooftop infinity pool, where you can look out towards the river. However, because of an apartment complex directly opposite the hotel, your view will be obstructed to a certain extent. Do not let that affect you, however, as you can enjoy a nice breeze without fearing too much sunlight on your body. You can go for a nice swim without fearing the harmful events of too much direct sunlight.

The gymnasium is on the same floor and has all the essential equipment. It is just beside the swimming pool, and you can look out at it while working out, thinking about a rewarding swim after completing your workout.

Besides these standard offerings, the hotel has a restaurant that serves as a co-working space. Besides being a restaurant that serves buffet breakfast in the mornings, it also has plenty of space for co-working. We see expats doing some work during our stay. The best part is that it is open 24 hours a day, and we happened to be one of those late-night guests when we headed to the restaurant for a late-night chat over coffee one night. It was comforting when the staff warmly welcomed us and assured us they were open as it is operational 24 hours a day.

Another key facility at this lovely hotel is its spa, located on the ground floor. The Spa by KhmerTonics has different treatments for travellers, ensuring you will be pampered no matter the massage you choose. We booked a couples massage and were provided with a private room. It was the most enjoyable 90 minutes, and we loved every second of the pampering. During our stay, hotel guests get a complimentary 30-minute massage on top of whatever treatment they choose, and we end up with a 90-minute spa session. Suffice it to say, we will be back at The Spa by KhmerTonics!

Food:

Hemisphere Sky Bar

TRIBE Phnom Penh Post Office Square has several restaurants for guests to enjoy. During our stay, we managed to try out a couple of them. On our first night, we headed straight to the rooftop restuarant, Hemisphere Sky Bar, for a late dinner. We also enjoyed a light pre-dinner on our final night at the rooftop restaurant.

The food was delicious, and the environment made it perfect for travellers. The restaurant has al fresco seating, and it made total sense to be seated in the open area. During evenings, the weather has cooled down, and the high floor made it breezy. Indeed, we saw many couples having dinner in the alfresco area, with only a few of them opting for air-conditioned comfort.

We managed to snap quite a few pictures of the city during sunset, and they were some of our favourite photos from our time in Phnom Penh.

Food-wise, the food was delicious. During our first night, the restaurant was actually closing and we were their last customers. However, they remained professional and were happy to serve us. We were only too grateful and ordered some of their salads. They tasted great and we washed them down with some refreshing mocktails. During our final night, we tried some finger food, ordering guacamole chips and fresh fruits. They were simple but tasted great.

Our trip also coincided with Cambodia’s Independence Day. They would have a fireworks celebration on the riverfront, and the hotel is one of the best spots to catch them. After the fireworks started, the hotel staff immediately ushered those who wished to catch the fireworks to an area that was not usually open to guests. We stood in awe for about ten minutes watching the fireworks. Only after we finished watching the fireworks did we remember to return to our table to pay and leave the restaurant!

TRIBE Express

The hotel’s second floor houses the co-working space, restaurant, and bar all in one. Called TRIBE Express, it is open 24 hours a day. During our final morning, we skipped breakfast and chose to sleep in. By the time we were awake, it was almost lunchtime. We decided to head to TRIBE Express for a quick bite as we wanted to enjoy another local meal outside the hotel before flying back.

We shared a pulled pork sandwich that came with complimentary chips and ordered an Americano each. Perhaps we were starving, but that sandwich was our most delicious breakfast for some time. After washing it down with a cup of Americano, our day was set!

KoKo Steakhouse

Finally, we also had the opportunity to enjoy dinner at KoKo Steakhouse, located on the hotel's ground floor. Even though TRIBE Phnom Penh Post Office Square does not scream opulence, especially when you look at some of the other hotel offerings in the city, do not let that fool you. KoKo Steakhouse is a proper steakhouse that serves sumptuous steaks.

We first ordered two pieces of bone marrow and Josper-grilled Hokkaido scallops as starters. Before the food arrived, however, they kindly served complimentary bread and chips with dips to start the meal. The lightly grilled bread and chips were perfect to start the meal with. We had to force ourselves not to overeat as we had ordered quite a fair bit. Not long after, the starters arrived.

The bone marrow was so good and went perfectly with the baguette. It was soon gone, and our attention turned towards the scallops. Similarly, we devoured the scallops in no time. The scallops tasted very fresh, and the unique KoKo sauce complemented the fresh scallop taste.

After a short while, our main courses arrived. She had the 250g Ribeye steak while I had the 250g Sirloin steak with Kapmpot Pepper sauce. Although I usually enjoy steak without sauce, I could not resist trying a steak with one of Cambodia’s most famous exports, the Kampot Pepper. Of course, the sauce was delicious and went well with the Sirloin steak. Perfectly cooked to medium rare, we both enjoyed our steaks thoroughly. With the bread, chips, and starters, 250g was just the right amount of steak.

Finally, as we were about to call it a night, the server asked if we would like desserts. As my partner looked at me in horror, I spontaneously ordered one serving of the Crepes Suzette to share. As the saying goes, there is always room for dessert! We are putting this logic to the test!

The Crepes Suzette soon arrived with a scoop of salted caramel ice cream. The sauce covered the entire crepe and looked so messy in such a scrumptious way. There was no time to waste, and we took turns savouring the sweet French dessert. As with the rest of the dishes that night, we finished the dessert in no time. It was the best way to end a steak dinner!

We enjoyed ourselves so much at KoKo Steakhouse. The service was perfect, and the servers were attentive and attentive. They were very friendly and nice to us throughout our meal. The food was so good, and it was easily one of the best meals we had in Phnom Penh. I think it is safe to say this was our favourite meal in the city!

Room:

As Phnom Penh was our final destination before returning home, we wanted to splurge and enjoy a big room. Hence, we considered booking a stay in its TRIBE Lifestyle Junior Suite. Measuring 40 square metres, it appears that the suite is actually two accessible rooms combined to make one suite. There are two rooms in this suite, which are equally split between a living room and a bedroom.

You first enter the room and see an open closet on one side and the bathroom on the other. Due to the lack of space in the room, the bathroom’s washing area is in the living area outside the bathroom. We see this in smaller hotel rooms where space is at a premium. Nevertheless, it works in this bathroom as it was smartly designed in a dumbbell format, so you will turn to your left or right to use the toilet or standing shower. A lot of space is saved using such a design. The washing area contains all the toiletries, including hand towels and a large mirror for all your daily needs. Kevin Murphy, an Australian haircare brand, provides toiletries.

The open closet contains sufficient hangers, bathrobes, bathroom slippers, and a hairdryer, all neatly displayed for guests. The room safe is below the table; you can easily store your valuables here. Complimentary bottled water is provided via glass bottles, which the hotel refills daily. Caffeine options include Nespresso capsules and Dilmah teabags, so your daily needs should be met. A small fridge is attached to the wall so you can chill your beverages after purchasing them from the convenience store.

The living area has an extremely comfortable sofa with a coffee table so your partner can nap on the sofa while you catch a movie on the large television while snacking away. Indeed, this was what happened!

The bedroom is separated from the living room by a door and is consistent with most suites, where a bedroom is separated from the living area. In this case, the bedroom design appears to be precisely the same as the living room, except instead of a sofa, a King-sized bed and side tables replace it. There was a sense of deja vu when we first entered the bedroom, as we saw the same open closet, bathroom, and washing area. This was quite unique as we had not encountered such a design before. Having said that, we definitely appreciate having two bathrooms as we saved so much time showering at the same time! The only difference is the lack of a Nespresso machine and bathrobes in the bedroom, which should be of no concern.

The King-sized bed was extremely comfortable and we slept like babies every night. For sure, as we woke up so late each day that by the time we left the hotel for our first meal, it was already the afternoon. We are quite sure the housekeeping staff have thoughts about us! Wall sockets are available on either side of the bed so both parties can charge their phone while sleeping. You feel cosy and disconnected from the outside world when the curtains are drawn. Some might enjoy it, and we certainly do. When we were catching a movie at night, we almost forgot we were actually in Phnom Penh!

Views:

Nicely situated by the riverfront, TRIBE Phnom Penh Post Office Square offers some of the best views in the city. From the rooftop, you get to witness some of the best sunsets in the region. We hope you enjoy the pictures we took during our time at this lovely hotel!

Overall, the TRIBE Lifestyle Junior Suite is a very comfortable room we highly recommend. It is an excellent suite with a unique design, comes with a separate bedroom, and is comfortable. We definitely enjoyed staying at TRIBE Phnom Penh Post Office Square and will not hesitate to stay here again the next time we are in Phnom Penh!
