Hotel Review: Swissotel The Stamford, Singapore (Premier Room)

One of the benefits of Accor Plus is that its hotels regularly offer discounts on its rooms, also known as Red Hot Rooms, which can be very substantial. During one of the times when we were looking through the Accor mobile application, we chanced upon Swissotel The Stamford offering a terrific deal during its Red Hot Rooms promotion. A check on a 2-night stay amounted to approximately S$512. Considering Singapore's ever-increasing hotel room prices this year, we thought this was an outstanding deal. We decided to book a 2-night stay and locked in the price for our last staycation of 2023!

TL:DR

  • Panoramic views of Singapore

  • Multiple restaurants and eateries in the vicinity

  • Central location ideal for tourists

  • Spacious room that is value for money

Service:

Service was all around professional and good. Swissotel The Stamford’s check-in counters are designed to be self-checked-in. This is necessary as this hotel has too many rooms for conventional check-in counters to work. Instead, there are always staff around the counters assisting customers. We were one of those who required their assistance when the system could not detect our reservation, and we waited for a short while before she came to assist us. Everything was done smoothly, and the check-in was completed within 5 minutes.

When we had dinner at one of their restaurants, Asian Market Cafe, the service was very friendly and nice. Even though it was a buffet dinner, staff members asked if we would like a cup of teh tarik as he had just freshly brewed a new pot. We graciously accepted his offer and enjoyed a piping hot cup of teh tarik. After finishing our dinner, the staff also ensured that our credit card was registered with Accor so we could earn the Accor points from dinner. It was thoughtful of him to ensure that hotel guests earned their entitled benefits.

Hotel Facilities:

Swissotel The Stamford shares its facilities with Fairmont Singapore. Located on the 8th floor are two beautiful swimming pools and tennis courts for hotel guests. Even though the swimming pools are pretty small, especially when considering two large hotels using them, we did not find them too crowded when we visited them in the morning. There is also a nice restaurant by the swimming pools, The Eight, so parents can grab a bite while their children enjoy the pool. A fitness centre on the 6th floor is connected to the swimming pool. It is quite private and great for hotel guests to work out without disturbance.

Food:

During our two-night stay, we opted not to have breakfast at the hotel as Raffles City has many food options. Nevertheless, we decided to have a buffet dinner at one of their restaurants. When we first tried to walk in at Clove, Swissotel The Stamford’s buffet restaurant, they mentioned they were at full capacity. We knew this was likely as it was the year-end period, and we saw many guests having their company/department bonding sessions at the buffet restaurants. We then tried Asian Market Cafe, Fairmont Singapore’s buffet restaurant, and they said they would have a space later. We went for a walk and, thankfully, got a seat at 8 pm.

Asian Market Cafe is a halal-certified buffet restaurant that serves many types of food. True to its name, there were several Asian selections, from rojak to kuehs. There were also curries, Nasi Lemak, and Singapore’s famous teh tarik! However, guests need not fear that the restaurant serves only Asian food. There were plenty of seafood options as well. Sashimi is a firm favourite, while seafood on ice is available and constantly replenished to ensure guests need not wait to eat to their hearts’ content! We saw delicious prawns, crayfish, scallops, and crabs, among other types of seafood, and we took quite a few servings. We definitely enjoyed multiple rounds of fresh salmon sashimi.

Those who enjoy living a little healthy can try some salad. There are also cooked salmon and roasted beef for the rest of us. We also enjoyed some hot dishes, including prawns, crabs, and beef. We love how Asian Market Cafe goes all out and serves all types of good-quality food without skimping. They serve many premium dishes and readily replenish them whenever they run low. We see this happening even when the restaurant is near closing time, but there are still guests enjoying their food. We love this restaurant's excellent customer service, a key reason why you should enjoy a meal here.

Overall, we loved our dinner at Asian Market Cafe. The food selection was great, the food tasted delicious, and the customer service was fantastic. Overall, it was an excellent year-end meal to complete our staycation at Swissotel The Stamford.

Even though we only enjoyed one meal at the hotel’s restaurants during our stay, we tried some of its restaurants during our visits to Raffles City. We had lunches at The Stamford Brasserie and meals at Prego and The Eight. We always enjoyed our meals at Swissotel The Stamford and Fairmont Singapore, as their customer service was always on point, and the food always tasted delicious. We do not have any complaints, and we love coming here for our meals.

Room:

Swissotel The Stamford has an astounding 1,252 rooms. All rooms have balconies, making the hotel a dream for travellers. For our stay, we booked a room in the entry-level Premier Room. Measuring 40 square metres, it is very spacious for a basic room.

When you first enter the room, you are greeted by the bathroom on the side. The small wardrobe is on the other side of the room. A small but functional cabinet houses the Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, and cutlery for your dining needs. The empty minibar is located within the same cabinet. Coffee, of course, comes in the form of Nespresso capsules, while TWG teabags are provided for tea lovers. There is another wardrobe on the bathroom side with enough space to store a suitcase and more clothes. The bathrobes are also hung here.

In the bathroom, there is a standing shower, and plenty of towels hang on the rack. The sink has a tap that provides filtered water, so guests can always readily access drinking water. Toiletries are provided by their in-house brand, Purovel. This brand provides shampoo, shower gel, hair conditioner, hand soap, and body lotion. We enjoyed this brand throughout our stay.

The King-sized bed sits perfectly in the middle of the room, and there is lots of space to manoeuvre around. One side of the bed has a wall plug, while the other has two USB-A ports. Guests must choose wisely which side of the bed to sleep on!

The wall-mounted television fits seamlessly with the wall, making the room feel even more spacious. During our stay, we noticed many television advertisements for dining promotions exclusive to hotel guests. We loved it, and this was how we discovered its great buffet restaurant offerings. We are not ashamed to say that the buffet restaurants were one of the first places we headed after checking in.

There is a small sofa opposite the size of the room, which is perfect as a workstation. During our stay, that was where I was working during the day. It was also large enough that my pastries were placed on the same table while I was working and had hunger pangs. The wall plug was just beside the sofa, so there was no issue with running out of power. One con was the fact you are facing away from the television. Hence, you cannot be distracted by any television show while working. However, you can face your partner taking a nap while working.

During our two-night stay at Swissotel The Stamford, we enjoyed ourselves and cannot complain. The room is spacious, and we loved the views from our room. The fact that we got the room at such an affordable rate makes our stay even better.

Views from the room:

Undoubtedly, one of the key reasons anyone wishes to stay at Swissotel The Stamford is its amazing views. Besides the fact that the hotel is centrally located, with the MRT station directly below the hotel, it is also the hotel where guests can enjoy a 360-degree view of the city, depending on where their room is situated.

For our Premier room, the entry-level room, you are accorded a view of the city instead of the Marina Bay view everyone loves. And yet, we loved the views from our room. Because of the height, you get a bird’s eye view of the city and a front-row seat of the ever-changing weather. We were able to experience thunderstorms up close and saw some of the most beautiful sunsets. Come nighttime, the city lights up, and you can see the streets light up. Even though our room came with a city view, we could also see the Central Business District and Padang, which are so beautiful. Using our phones, we captured some fantastic shots, which made our stay at Swissotel The Stamford worthwhile. We hope you will enjoy these pictures that we took!

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Swissotel The Stamford. The Premier Room was spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Its location was perfect, and the views offered from our room were fantastic. At such an affordable price, we considered our staycation a steal. Customer service was another highlight, and we enjoyed the kind service we received, which is admirable considering it is such a large hotel with more than a thousand rooms! For sure, we will be back again for another stay.
