When we decided to make a short trip to Bangkok, we considered which hotel to stay in. Bangkok has plenty of hotels, and everyone can find a nice one suited to their budget. We wanted to minimise our cash outlay and considered redeeming some points we received from staying at IHG hotels. We quickly checked the mobile application and found that InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit was newly built, opening its doors only in late December 2023. We thought, what better time to stay in this new hotel in Bangkok!
The IHG mobile application showed that the Classic Room was available for booking at 24,650 IHG points. Since we had sufficient points and did not need to come up with any cash, we booked it. Ironically, we opted for an extended late checkout on the date of our departure from Bangkok. Even though we had a complimentary late checkout at 2 pm, we wanted to stay longer to rest, pack our luggage, and shower before heading to the airport. Ultimately, we paid 3,531 baht, or a half day's rate, to check out at 6 pm. Was that the right decision? We will never know. However, we know we appreciated enjoying the air-conditioned comfort of the hotel room for that much longer!
TL:DR
New and modern-looking hotel
Beautiful and spacious rooms
Fantastic breakfast
Breathtaking views of the city from the swimming pool
Service:
Service was excellent throughout our stay, and the hotel staff were always friendly whenever we needed help or assistance. The restaurant was bustling during breakfast, and we could see how the staff members were moving about and attending to guests’ various demands and requests. Somehow, all of them maintained their professionalism and handled all the guests’ requests without breaking a sweat or dropping their smiles. Honestly, it is a testament to the excellent customer service. When we checked out, it was similarly smooth, and there were no hiccups. We definitely enjoyed our stay here.
Besides the service, we have to highlight how pretty the hotel is. Maybe it is still very new, but we adore its aesthetics. The lobby looked so beautiful, and we could not stop admiring it. Alas, we only stayed there for one night and spent most of our time outside. In the future, we will definitely book a longer stay at this hotel, spend some time in the lobby, and experience all that it has to offer!
Hotel Facilities:
InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit has a breathtaking swimming pool at the top. When we were there, we were awestruck by its beauty. The pool is an indoor infinity pool with the best city views. It was pretty amazing to check out Bangkok’s city skyline from the comfort of the pool. For those serious about Instagram, the swimming pool is definitely the place to be.
The gym is on the same floor and has the required standard equipment. Treadmills and dumbbells of various sizes are available for a good workout. Towels and complimentary towels are also provided.
InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit has The Spa by Harnn, a famous Thai brand known for its wellness and hospitality services. Their spas are located in various hotels around the region, and guests should definitely try them while in Bangkok. As we were only there for one night, we could not find the time to go for a treatment. The next time we are here, we will be at The Spa by Harnn!
Breakfast:
Breakfast at InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit is served at AVA Brasserie, its main restaurant on the 4th floor. It is no exaggeration that we enjoyed one of the best breakfasts at AVA Brasserie.
The breakfast spread offers a balanced mix of Eastern and Western options. Conventional breakfast options include bacon, bread, cheeses, cold cuts, yoghurt, cereals, roasted potatoes, tomatoes, etc. These all tasted delicious. However, there were also unique food options, including perfectly cooked pork belly. I am usually not a big fan of pork belly, but the one cooked by AVA Brasserie at InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit made me want to go for seconds. It was that good.
Food items are also specially catered for guests who might be jet-lagged. Items such as quinoa, watermelon with feta cheese, and a protein wrap are available for those needing proper hydration and energy boost for the day.
We also love that they displayed their pastries beautifully in three-tier serving stands, which made them look all the more appetising. The lovely croissants, pain au chocolat, and fruit Danish all look so good. True to Thai hospitality, they serve fresh coconuts to anyone who might fancy a refreshing coconut in the morning. We were one of those who loved the refreshing taste of a Thai coconut!
In addition to all these buffet food items, AVA Brasserie does one better by offering cook-to-order items for guests to enjoy. Each table has a separate menu where guests can order unique dishes that are not available at the buffet spread. We took the opportunity to order Benedict Royale and boat noodles and ended our breakfast with a fluffy Japanese pancake.
Breakfast was a delight for both of us. We loved how we started that morning and enjoyed a sumptuous meal first thing in the morning. Even though the restaurant was packed, the staff members ensured that we enjoyed our meal and ensured the dishes we ordered arrived promptly. The food presentation was also top-notch, as we saw how the pancake and Eggs Royale were served. It was to the highest standards, and we were impressed with their attention to detail. Undoubtedly, the food at AVA Brasserie is one of the key reasons why we loved our stay at InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit.
Besides the food, we also enjoyed how spacious the restaurant is. During the day, lots of natural sunlight shone in, yet it did not feel warm. Perhaps it was because AVA Brasserie is located on the 4th floor, and skyscrapers surround the hotel, so it does not receive any direct sunlight. This definitely made the restaurant a great place to enjoy a meal. There are plenty of window seats that give you a great view of the trains zooming towards the station. For those who prefer to be in their zone, many other seats allow you to focus on each other's conversations. We really like this restaurant a lot!
Room:

InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit’s Classic rooms measure between 34 and 38 square metres, depending on your room’s location. Due to the building’s structure, the hotel’s Classic rooms do not have a uniform design. While we did not know how big our room was, it felt spacious, with lots of room to move about.
When you first enter the room, a spacious wardrobe greets you. A sliding-door wardrobe contains all the essentials like bathrobes, iron and ironing boards, and a room safe. There is another open-concept wardrobe beside that is helpful for hanging clothes that you will be wearing again. Think sweaters and perhaps pyjamas. Beside the wardrobes is the “kitchen” area. What we mean is this is where all the goodies are stored in the room. Above is a compartment that stores all the different alcoholic beverages. On the tabletop is a Nespresso coffee machine with Nespresso coffee capsules. TWG teabags and snacks can be found in the drawer. Complimentary bottled water is provided by Chang, a local brand more famous for its beer and its former sponsorship with the English football club Everton. The bottom cabinet opens up to a full mini-bar that stores a variety of drinks in the fridge, from still water to sparkling water, from juices to soft drinks, from beer to champagne. There are also chocolate bars if you so fancy.
On the other side was the bathroom, where we realised exactly how big it was. While there is only one sink, the entire area is large enough to fit two. A large mirror is fitted above so guests can ensure they look their Sunday best before leaving the hotel. A large bathtub sits in the bathroom, where a sliding door awaits. If you are feeling romantic, slide the doors to lock eyes with your partner lying on the bed. Alternatively, face the other side and catch a movie while soaking in the bathtub. There is a separate standing shower that offers complete privacy, so you will not be disturbed by anyone. Byredo provides toiletries, so you will leave the bathroom feeling and smelling great.
The King-sized bed sits at the end of the room facing the television. In fact, the room is so spacious that there is sufficient space to fit a small table with two chairs so guests can do some work. The wall sockets are by the table, which is a perfect arrangement. There is also a long chair at the end of the bed so guests can sit around and chat. For me, I made use of the table to enjoy a complimentary snack that the hotel kindly provided. I paired it with the complimentary Nespresso coffee, and it was delicious. I was glad I enjoyed the snacks before we left the hotel.
Perhaps it was because the hotel was still new, but the bed was extremely comfortable. Or maybe we were just so tired from an entire day out in the sun and about, but we slept like babies that night. There are wall sockets with USB-A ports on either side of the bed, which works great for guests who use their mobile phones heavily. One side contains the master switches and the telephone, while the other includes the alarm clock and limited switches. Pick your side!
Bangkok is famous for its warm weather and we could feel the heat even from the comfort of our air-conditioned room. This is probably why the curtains are so thick and could block out both the sunlight and the afternoon heat. After drawing the curtains, the entire room felt so cosy. We almost felt like taking a nap! Nevertheless, it has some lovely views of the city, especially the monorails moving from station to station. Maybe it is a guy’s thing, but I like checking the trains moving about.

Overall, it was a very nice and new-looking room that fulfilled all our needs. We were only in Bangkok for a night, and this hotel surpassed our expectations. It was within walking distance of a train station, and from the station, you could travel to the rest of the city. Even though there are so many hotels in Bangkok to choose from, we would say that InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit scores highly on its superior customer service, top-notch breakfast, and excellent rooms. Without a doubt, we will be back at this fantastic hotel again for another stay!
