Hotel Review: Holiday Inn Melaka (Standard Room)

After securing a flight from Singapore to Melaka via Scoot, we did not think much about where to stay. After all, there are many hotels in Malacca to consider. Add Airbnb to the mix, and many accommodation choices will be available. As the time to travel neared, I started to think more carefully about where to stay. A quick search led me to the Holiday Inn. Recently, it has been the hotel of choice whenever we travel to nearby places (i.e., Holiday Inn Johor Bahru City Centre and Holiday Inn Resort Batam). A search showed that the hotel is near the tourist areas, although the city's traffic system might make walking to and from the shopping areas a little challenging. However, a quick Grab ride easily solves this issue. Perhaps unsurprisingly, we decided to book a stay at Holiday Inn Melaka!

TL:DR

  • Nice view of Melaka city

  • Clean rooms

  • Nice swimming pool and gym

  • Shuttle bus to Jonker Street

Service:

The service was excellent, and check-in went smoothly. We were informed about the breakfast option but ultimately did not take it up. We wanted to enjoy some food at Jonker Street! Having said that, we asked and were told the buffet breakfast costs RM45.00 per person.

Check-out was similarly smooth. We could easily drop off our bags after check-out and wander around the city before returning to the hotel to collect them before heading to the airport. Overall, we enjoyed the pleasant service at Holiday Inn Melaka.

Hotel Facilities:

Holiday Inn Melaka has a nice rooftop swimming pool on the fourth floor and an indoor gym on the same floor. The swimming pool was relatively empty during our stay, save for one person swimming, although that could be due to the slight drizzle. The gym was also empty, and our best guess was that hotel guests were busy enjoying all the good food Malacca has to offer.

The swimming pool is large, and we can definitely see ourselves having a good swim if we have more days to spend in the city. Alas, as we were only staying for a night, we managed to check out the swimming pool just before checking out!

Holiday Inn Melaka’s rooms come with either a sea or city view. In our opinion, either view does not matter as both offer great city views. Our room faced the city, and we were rewarded with a great view of the city’s main shopping and tourist district.

It is a nice and clean room with everything in order. The wardrobe is on one side, while the bathroom is on the other. The bathroom has all the essentials, with toiletries provided by Dove, consistent with its sister properties in Johor Bahru and Batam. The wardrobe has all that is required as well. An iron, ironing board, bathrobes, bathroom slippers, and a room safe are provided. Caffeine options are available through Boncafe coffee sachets and Dilmah tea sachets, which are great ways to get some caffeine into your body. Complimentary bottled water is also provided.

The king-sized bed is very comfortable and sits comfortably in the middle of the room. The television provides some proper movie channels, and I managed to watch a movie before dozing off. The workstation is directly in front of the television, so it might not be a great place to do some work and catch a movie simultaneously. On the other hand, such an arrangement allows you to concentrate on your work if you need to clear some urgent work during a vacation.

A lovely lounge chair sits in the corner of the room and is a great place to relax while your partner is working. Alternatively, it is a great place to look towards the city and admire its views.

Views from the room:

An advantage of staying in a tall hotel is the views it offers. In our city-view room, we could see a glimpse of Melaka during our stay. We also managed to see a few of the city's most famous attractions. Have a look!

Overall, we had an enjoyable stay at Holiday Inn Melaka. The rooms were clean, and the staff was very friendly. Everything was lovely, and we would not hesitate to stay here again the next time we are in Malacca!
